In the Times of Corona

So as the battle against Corona ensues and the world accepts grudgingly that self isolation is the only way to ensure safety of self and others, the antisocial me welcomes the concept of  staying at home with my books and Netflix and a stocked pantry and freezer a bit better than most around me.

This was also the point when a load of shocking revelations hit me. The news and the multiple WhatsApp forwards documenting the measures taken by various governments and leaders and people all over the world highlighted a lot of loopholes and flaws and lapses, because finally we are at a stage where we are forced to stay in our homes and stop and think about something bigger than ourselves.
THE BIGGER PICTURE.

Amidst conspiracy theories that allege that Corona is actually China's bio-weapon to boost their economy while the rest of the world goes towards a global recession that could be compared to the one the world experienced during The Great Depression, we see countries delaying application of  mass quarantining in order to sustain their economy "as far as it goes".

Makes one wonder, how along the lines, we, as a global community seems to be lost, desperately trying to align our priorities with confusion as if the realization that human life is so fragile just hit us all.

Having laughed at the Numerous memes on "Panic buying" for weeks, I finally went to a supermarket to get my groceries  and that's when I realized those memes weren't as funny anymore when I saw the empty shelves because not just the toilet paper was over, but so were the meats and onion and eggs and yoghurt and bread and practically almost every single thing on my list. Up to that point I hadn't realized that beginning of our self isolation required that my husband go to 5 different grocery stores all over the city to get what we needed.

With my visa application currently suspended in the vortex which doesn't let me seek work, I have decided to be one with the Internet and instead of sulking and  dwelling on all the negative aspects this virus has brought to light, attempt to focus on all the good that's being done.

All those doctors and nurses and paramedics and hospital cleaners and ambulance drivers who are in the Covid department, who toil to make sure this ends as soon as as possible and causes as little harm as possible. They didn't sign up for this but they rose to the challenge and delivered.

Also, the world is going to witness a definite improvement in culinary skills globally arising from boredom and the simple fact that 9 meals a day is a completely acceptable activity during Quarantine.

Let's hope one day, 40 years from now, we get to tell our grandchildren a story about how their grandparents saved the world by Staying at home and watching Netflix.

God Bless.
Till I see you again.
